A drive straight up I-26 to Summerville from historic Charleston ... a 3-wood
with a good roll along 17-A and a well placed chip shot down Country Club
Boulevard will land you on the number one tee of the oldest golf course in the
Low Country. 

Miler has gone from 36 holes and a par 3 course in the early 1920s to a refined
18 holes. The huge pines and oaks that brought two presidents as well as health
enthusiasts from around the world to Summerville to breathe the pure
pine-scented air remain today. 

Many golfers still prefer to walk the historic paths and feel the course over 18
holes in a family type atmosphere. At Miler, you can walk or ride. 

The course offers a challenge to even the best golfers. You don't have to hit like
John Daly, but your shots better be straight. The course, while not necessarily
severe, is real test of golfing ability. Its physical layout has been highly
complimented by leading professionals who have played it. 

Each year founder Chick Miler memory is honored with the largest amateur
tournament in South Carolina. Over 200 participants play in the 54-hole stroke
play event. 

It is of passing interest to recall that a part of the estate was once the only
plantation in America where tea was ever grown successfully. While green
fairways have replaced the tea fields, some tea plants survive as reminders of days
gone by. 

18-hole Bermuda Grass course with water in play. Built in 1917. Weekday green fees for non-members are $10.50 for 18 holes and $10.50 for 9 holes during peak season. Weekend green fees for non-members are $15.75 for 18 holes and $10.50 for 9 holes during peak season.

USTA Play Tennis America Level One - Beginner

Clinics focus on stroke development, positioning and strategy essential to learning and improving your tennis game. A great introduction to the "Sport of a Lifetime" and a grand way to meet new tennis friends.

• Tues -- 6:30 - 8 p.m.
• Fri -- 10:30 a.m. - 12 noon
• Cost -- $50 per 5-week session

USTA Play Tennis America Level Two - Intermediate

• Thurs -- 6:30 - 8 p.m.
• Cost -- $50 per 5-week session

USTA League Group Lessons - 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 etc.

Program will be tailored for individual team with emphasis on strategy and instruction essential to continued team success. Get ready for the season!!!

• Date and time - Please register according to team practice schedule. Times are limited, so register early.
• Cost - Dependent on number of players participating on team.

Adult Tennis Workshop

This workshop helps players concentrate on particular areas of their game.

• Mon -- 9-10 a.m. -- Forehand and backhand ground strokes
• Tue -- 9-10 a.m. -- Net game and approach shots
• Wed -- 9-10 a.m. -- Serves and returns
• Thu -- 9-10 a.m. -- Doubles strategy
• Cost -- $7 per day or $25 for all four days

USTA Junior Development Program - Beginner

Program stresses correct racquet-ball relationship, stroke production, consistence and footwork. Great way to introduce child to tennis and an easy way to meet new friends.

• Tue & Thu -- 5:30-6:30 p.m.
• $56 per 4-week session, $30 one day/week

USTA Junior Development Program - Advanced

Program emphasizes stroke development, training and conditioning for the serious tournament player with an emphasis on continuous improvement. Players will be given match play, and strategy essential to attaining a state ranking.

• Mon & Wed -- 4-6 p.m.
• $100 per 4-week session, $55 one day/week

• $5 additional non-members
• $5 proration fee (for those entering late or leaving a program early)
